1. Detection — UV Flashlights
Scorpions fluoresce bright cyan-green under 365nm UV. A blacklight is the single highest-leverage tool in scorpion control — you can’t fix what you can’t find. We picked three at different price tiers.
BlueDot Trading 51 LED Scorpion Detector
51 UV LEDs, AA-battery powered, literally branded as a scorpion detector. The volume bestseller in the category. Good for most Vegas homeowners doing a few night sweeps a year — bright enough to spot scorpions in your yard and along the perimeter.
LBJD 365nm Pro UV Flashlight
4 filtered 365nm LEDs (not 395nm — the cheaper UV wavelength that doesn’t make scorpions glow as bright), rechargeable battery, proper UV filter. The right choice if you’ll do regular DIY inspections or treat a larger property.
Morpilot 30W 365nm Pro
Pro optical filter lenses, 30W high power, 60ft effective range. For serious sweeps of an acre+ property, or if you’ve got an established population and need to find every last one. Overkill for most homes but legitimately the tool pros use.
2. DIY Treatment — The Pesticide + Sprayer Combo
If you’re going the DIY route instead of hiring a pest company, these two items together are the kit. Same active ingredient pros use, same delivery system. About $60 total. Treats a typical Vegas home for a full season.
7.9% Bifenthrin Concentrate (Talstar equivalent)
This is the generic version of Talstar Pro / Bifen IT — same 7.9% bifenthrin, same label, lower price. Mix at the label rate (typically 1 oz per gallon of water). One bottle treats a typical Vegas home 6-10 times. Pyrethroid residual lasts 60-90 days against scorpions.
Important: Read the label. Don’t apply in midday Vegas heat (UV breaks down pyrethroids). Apply at dusk or to shaded surfaces.
Chapin 26021XP ProSeries 2-Gallon Sprayer

Keep this one separate from any garden sprayer you already own.
3. Sealing Entry Points (Exclusion)
Treatment kills scorpions in your house. Exclusion stops new ones from getting in. Done thoroughly, exclusion is more effective long-term than any chemical treatment.
RID-O-MICE Weep Hole Covers (20-Pack)
Stainless steel mesh inserts for the small openings at the base of stucco walls. Explicitly tested against scorpions. Push-in installation, no tools. The 20-pack handles a smaller home or partial coverage.
RID-O-MICE Weep Hole Covers (50-Pack)
Same product, bulk size. A typical Vegas tract home has 8-30 weep holes; the 50-pack gives you full coverage plus spares for door thresholds and other gaps. Best per-cover price.
Holikme EPDM 22ft Garage Door Bottom Seal
Replaces the cracked/worn rubber strip at the base of your garage door — one of the top three entry points in every Vegas home. EPDM rubber holds up to UV better than cheaper alternatives. 30-minute install, no special tools.
4. Traps & Monitoring
Catch what gets through. Glue traps don’t replace exclusion or treatment, but they catch the stragglers and give you intel on where the activity is concentrated.
Catchmaster Scorpion Glue Tray Traps (6-Pack)
The tray design (vs flat glue board) better mimics the cracks scorpions seek out for shelter. Catchmaster is the brand pest pros use. Place along baseboards, behind furniture, in garages. Last up to a year in normal conditions.
Catchmaster Super Glue Traps (30-Pack)
Same family, flat glue board format, bulk. Better per-trap pricing for whole-home monitoring or if you’ve got significant scorpion activity. Place at minimum behind every appliance, in each garage corner, in attic access points, and along the master bedroom baseboard.
What we deliberately didn’t include
Mothballs. Don’t repel scorpions. Real evidence: zero. Plus indoor air quality concerns.
Essential oil “natural” sprays. Peppermint, cedar, lavender — tested in controlled studies, no reliable repellent effect on scorpions despite the TikTok claims.
Ultrasonic pest repellers. No peer-reviewed evidence of efficacy against scorpions or any other pest.
Bug zappers. Attract more insects to your yard, which attracts more scorpions. Net negative.
Snake-bite-style venom extractors for scorpion stings. Mixed evidence at best. Won’t pull venom from muscle tissue (which is where it goes after the initial sting). Better to focus on cold compress + Poison Control call.
